My Approach
The kind of psychotherapy I do is often called "Relational"and is based in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory and practice. A basic premise of relational theory is that the unconscious, and our relationships with others both past and present, have a profound and enduring influence on our feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Often, but not always, the past is playing out in the present.
About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I have been in private practice here in Fredericksburg for more than 25 years. I received my MSW degree at New York University in 1995. I am a mid-life career changer, having been an artist and professional photographer prior to becoming a therapist.
Why psychotherapy?
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. Our first meetings will be about hearing from you what it is that you feel you need help with, and what it is that you'd like to accomplish here, as well as answering the question of "Why now?" This also gives you a chance to get a feel for whether or not our working relationship could be a comfortable fit for you.
